The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others-Mahatma Gandhi

Mission Statement

The general health of a community is reflected in its members. During these times, it is crucial that we explore how to strengthen and give vitality to various communities. One way to start is to have conversations about what strengthens a community and motivates its members to support one another. These conversations may transform into platforms, strategies or instruments that can be used to construct programs or workshops that serve a greater purpose.

It is my hope that OyinsCafe will contribute and grow into a community hub that can be used as source to build effective and sustainable community programs that will nourish any and all underserved communities. Having the proper tools and information is key to the success of any program. Free training will be given to any individual or organization that is interested in improving the health of their community locally or globally. This space will also serve as a place to learn about communities in general.

Community programs play a significant role in both enhancing and supporting the overall community. We will focus on nutrition, healthy lifestyles, community research, structural & systemic racism, global initiatives and mental health. Our focus may shift from time to time because it will be based on the needs of the community. We should never lose sight of their needs. Although we are living in unprecedented times, this work is worthwhile and more important than ever before.Various communities are experiencing racism, poverty and isolation. All of these factors can and do contribute to poor health. In addition they further and exacerbate the health inequities and disparities these communities are already facing. Together let us deliver inspiration, quality programs, and some comfort while our nation heals.

Health Fairs

Health fairs allow both communities and organizations to exchange information. The community is given an opportunity to voice their health concerns and learn information about modifiable risk factors such as cholesterol levels. From an organizational standpoint, the organization can assess and evaluate the needs of the community. Are their health needs not being met? What activities and strategies need to be employed in order to generate healthy eating habits and medication adherence? These are just a few of the questions that may arise from a preliminary assessment. Health fairs will not cause a long term changes in health behaviors, but it can definitely expose individuals to healthy practices. Exposure is key when it comes to cultivating healthy habits. Workshops and monthly programs are effective tools to use increase motivation and creating habits that last. Exposure can be layered and built upon until the individual is motivated to make a lifestyle change.
